It was a fun time at Howling Park, where the Carson City Mustang and Wichita Wolverines tangled.
Luis Hernández was superb against Carson City. The right-hander, who leads the FFL with a 10.4 K/9 rate, had a fastball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a 6-1 Wolverines victory. Hernández got the win, improving to 7-10. He allowed 3 hits and walked 2 over 5 innings. Hernández allowed 1 earned run. Mark Sandwell closed the game out for Wichita, earning his 1st save.
The Wolverines beat the Mustang in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Willis Pierce produced in the bottom of the third. Batting against Carson City pitcher Maurice Bignold, Pierce gave his team a 3-1 lead when he hit a 2-run single.
"When I'm in the lineup, I always feel like we're going to win the game," said Hernández.
Wichita is now 75-74.
