The Pacifica Shamrocks had to overcome a big game from Riverside center fielder Héctor Lara to leave McCormick Field with a 5-4 victory. Lara was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Jamie Newitt got the save, his 21st in 23 chances. The first-place Shamrocks, at 88-58, now lead their division by 7 games.
In the bottom of the eighth inning of a 4-4 tie, Pacifica third baseman Taylor Bastien hit a run-scoring double. It broke the deadlock and put Pacifica on top, 5-4.
"Good win for us," said Bastien. "We'll strap it on and go after the next one."
