Nicholson Stars in Monarchs Win
|
Behind a solid performance from designated hitter Frank Nicholson, the Marysville Monarchs defeated the Youngstown Tune-Ups, 10-4. Nicholson went 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Monarchs. Sylvester Norwood, who went 5.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 6 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 1-4. The save was credited to Ryan Le Carré, his 4th.
A key moment came when Nicholson faced Youngstown hurler Dominic Smith in the top of the fifth. The Monarchs, who were trailing 4-2, had the bases loaded. Nicholson got a full count fastball and hit a grand slam.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Nicholson told the Marysville Daily.
Marysville is now 79-68, Youngstown 81-65.
