The Rock River Rats and starting pitcher Gonzalo Ramírez stifled the Topeka offense en route to a comfortable 8-2 win at The Field at Richmond. Ramírez, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 5.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 3 walks. Micah Davis closed the game out for Rock River, earning his 7th save.
The speedster Javier Ramírez tried to rally his team in the bottom of the seventh inning. With a runner on 1st and Topeka trailing 3-1, Ramírez hit a run-scoring double. But that was all she wrote for Rock River. "Ramírez had a nice at-bat," said manager Hervé Barthélémy. "Otherwise, we had a shortage of hits when it counted."
The first-place Rats have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
