Carson City overcame a superlative game from Eric Buffy to beat Spokane, 5-1. The Spokane pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. The Mustang, at 86-50, have a comfortable 17½-game lead in their division.
Carson City took control in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, Phil Parker hit a 2-run single to make it 3-1, Mustang.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Parker.
