Islanders Come Up Short at Cabo San Lucas
Cabo San Lucas beat Hawaii at Field de Los Layendas, escaping with a 5-4 win. The win in large part was due to third baseman Ashis Mudigonda, who earned player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The winner was Phoenix Smith, who threw 127 pitches over 8 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 8 hits. Lloyd Hunt picked up the save for Cabo San Lucas, his 13th of the year.

A key moment came when Mudigonda faced Hawaii hurler Mikey Altman in the bottom of the fifth. The Toreros, who were trailing 4-3, had a runner on 1st. Mudigonda got a 1-1 sinker and hit a 2-run home run.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Mudigonda.

The Toreros raised their record to 19-26.
