Hackers Mow Down Hellcats, 9-4
|
The Silicon Valley Hackers beat the Jacksonville Hellcats, 9-4, at San Jose Municipal Stadium. The Hackers got a fine performance from first baseman Jorge Hernández, who captured player of the game honors. He went 1 for 2 with 3 walks, while scoring 2 times. The win was credited to Remco Hassink in relief. His record improves to 8-0. Jon Givens took the loss. Silicon Valley occupies last place in the Cory Lidle League Lou Piniella League at 45-73.
Tied up with the Hellcats in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Hackers got a boost from designated hitter Greg Coker. With the bases loaded, Coker saw a 1-2 changeup from Jon Givens and hit a bases-clearing double to break the stalemate and put Silicon Valley on top, 6-3.
"Winning is the only thing that really matters," Coker told the Silicon Valley News. "If you can win without even breaking a sweat, more power to you."
