Long Island overcame a superlative game from Lourenço Russa to beat New York, 3-2. The New York pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball. Kunimichi Suzuki got credit for the win, improving to 4-5. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.1 innings. The Ducks raised their record to 51-64.
Both teams had trouble manufacturing runs. So, Yoshitoki Kitamura's at-bat in the top of the ninth was critical. With no one out, the Long Island designated hitter hit a 2-run home run, to give his team a 3-2 lead.
Afterward, Ducks manager Roger Fievet was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
