Wolverines Squelch Spartans Offense in Shutout Win
|
Charlie Haydon never let Sandy Springs get something going. The Wichita right-hander commanded his circle change in pitching the Wolverines to a 3-0 win. Haydon got the win, improving to 7-2. He allowed 4 hits and walked 3 over 5.1 innings. Haydon allowed no earned runs. Pedro Galló earned the save for Wichita, his 30th.
Juan Gruzmán contributed to the Wichita win. The 21-year old second baseman stroked a 2-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, Gruzmán was 1 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"We didn't score," said losing manager António Chávez. "That was the problem."
Wichita now has a 3-game win streak.
