Pierce Goes Wild, But Beetlecats Win
Wichita first baseman Willis Pierce had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 7-6, to Buzzard's Bay at Bloomfield Road. Pierce hit 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice. Buzzard's Bay reliever Dimitri Jourdan was the winner. His record is now 6-2. The losing pitcher was Cliff McDaniel. Daizo Hirai was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 5 save opportunities.

Joaquín Salas was a key contributor to the win for the Beetlecats. In the bottom of the seventh with two out, the light-hitting shortstop stroked a single to center. He was 2-3 with 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Salas told the Buzzard's Bay Citizen.

With the win, Buzzard's Bay goes to 43-54, while the Wolverines fall to 52-49.
