The inspired effort of DeKalb left fielder Pete Bauer was not enough to prevent a 4-3 loss to the Riverside Red Bulls. Bauer belted 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Héctor González picked up the win with 5.2 innings of work. He allowed 1 earned run on 4 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 12-6. Lien-ying Mar got credit for the save for Riverside. It was his 8th of the year.
With Riverside trailing 1-0 and the bases loaded, the Red Bulls fortunes got a boost when catcher Jim Kempenaars turned a first pitch fastball from Alan Gorringe into his 9th home run of the season. The hit scored 4 and put Riverside up, 4-1.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said DeKalb manager Eduardo Varerla.
Riverside is 56-40 and DeKalb, with the loss, 51-46.
