Frisco overcame a superlative game from Luis Vásquez to beat Youngstown, 5-3. The Youngstown pitcher took player of the game honors in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of shutout ball. The winner was Frisco reliever Cheng-qian Xia, now 1-0. The loser was Koshiro Ohayashi. Shih-k'ai Mi was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 3 of 4 save opportunities.
Runs were at a premium. So, Jiro Takahashi's at-bat with no one out in the top of the ninth was crucial. The Frisco third baseman hit a grand slam, to give his team a 4-2 lead.
"We did enough to win," said Takahashi.
The 4th-place Rams lifted their record to 45-45.
