Crawford Lifts Beehive to 5-3 Triumph
|
The umbrellas came out during the Madison-Wichita contest at Howling Park.
With designated hitter Scott Crawford leading the charge, the Madison Beehive defeated the Wichita Wolverines, 5-3, at Howling Park. Crawford, who is tied for 3rd in the FFL in home runs with 16, hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Madison reliever Duane Fraser got the win, raising his record to 3-2. Valentim Carrapa was tagged with the loss. John Haines notched his 16th save in 22 chances.
Runs were scarce in this one. So, Rich Burnes's at-bat in the top of the eighth was vitally important. With one out, the Madison second baseman hit a sacrifice fly, to give his team a 3-2 lead.
"The most important thing is that we won," Burnes said.
At 31-57, Madison is in last place in the Bob Moose League Jim Leyland Division.
