Nakashima Leads Rats to Win over Spartans
The Rock River Rats trumped the Sandy Springs Spartans, 13-8, at The Coliseum. Rock River third baseman Nobuatsu Nakashima was named player of the game for his performance. He was 2-3 with 2 home runs and 3 walks. He scored 4 runs and drove in 4. Colby Virella got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 3.2 innings. Scott McFarland said the idea of hitting a home run barely crossed his mind when he came to bat in the top of the seventh. McFarland belted a 2-run home run to stake Rock River to a 7-5 lead. His 18th home run of the season came off Sandy Springs pitcher Randy McKinney.
