Jail Birds Fall Short, 7-6, at Topeka
|
Newark right fielder Juan Villanueva had a good game, even if his team did not. The Jail Birds dropped a 7-6 decision to Topeka at The Field at Richmond. Villanueva was 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The winner was Jorge Arellano in relief. His record improves to 4-2. Leonardo Bazaidua took the loss. The save went to Pete Tupper, his 1st this season.
Topeka took a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two out, right fielder Germán Peña hit a 2-run home run that aroused the crowd.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Topeka manager Noriyori Shirai.
Topeka now sits at 45-38, while Newark falls to 38-41.
