Madison left-hander Jerry Kennedy pitched his team to victory over the Spokane Bulldogs at The Kennel. The final score was 5-3. Kennedy went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 7-6. John Haines earned the save for Madison, his 13th.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the sixth inning when the Beehive sent teenager Bartley Alroy to the plate against Bulldogs hurler António Días. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a double off a 1-1 fastball to score 2.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Kennedy. "Successful pitchers do it."
Today's win puts Madison at 25-51, while Spokane falls to 38-36.
