Dennis Gates never let the Ninjas get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his slider, to pitch the Wolverines to a 4-1 win. Wichita is now 41-31.

The game hit a turning point in the bottom of the first inning, when the Wolverines were trailing 1-0. Willis Pierce delivered a two-out 2-run double for Wichita, catapulting his team into the lead.

"I just made my pitches," said Gates, "and the ball kept missing the bat."
