Rock River starter José Mendoza pitched effectively against the Carson City Mustang at Cowboys Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a 4-2 win. Mendoza, now 8-1, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 2 earned runs. The Rats, at 51-21, have a comfortable 14˝-game lead in their division.

Lee Brooks took Bill Piner deep with one out in the top of the second. On a 2-2 fastball, Brooks drilled a 2-run home run to left-center. It was his 7th home run of the season and put Rock River on top, 2-0.
