Ducks Walk Off with 5-4 Win
|
The Long Island Ducks took San Antonio pitcher Dennis Hale's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Long Island Stadium. The final score had Long Island getting past the Storm Troopers, 5-4. Hale went 7 innings and allowed 2 earned runs, striking out 5. The winner was Miguel Hernández in relief. His record improves to 5-1. Steve Becker took the loss. The slumping Storm Troopers have dropped 7 in a row.
The Ducks got an important contribution from right fielder Fernando Gutiérrez, who in the bottom of the ninth hit a 1-2 splitter into left for a run-scoring single. It was his 43rd hit of the season and put the Ducks ahead, 5-4.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Gutiérrez.
