The Riverside Red Bulls and Newark Jail Birds put on a pitchers' duel at Cobras Ballpark.
The Newark Jail Birds wasted an inspired, 7.2-inning effort from starter Dani López, falling 1-0 to the Riverside Red Bulls at Cobras Ballpark. Iván Cabrera got the win, improving to 4-0. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 4 hits and no runs, while striking out 4 and walking 5. The save was credited to Jay Retter, his 3rd.
Hsui-chuan Fung took Dani López deep with no one out in the top of the fifth. On a 1-2 slider, Fung drilled a solo home run to right-center. It was his 5th home run of the season and put Riverside on top, 1-0.
"The vibe's good," said Riverside manager Tim Duncan. "We've got to keep it going."
The first-place Red Bulls have a one-game lead in their division.
