Marysville first baseman Frank Nicholson had a 4-RBI performance, which helped his team grab a 7-1 win over the Newark Jail Birds. David Guzman, the winner, improved to 4-3. He held Newark to 1 earned run on 4 hits over 5 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts. Ryan Le Carré sewed up the save, his 3rd.
Chipping in for Marysville was catcher Ramón Medina. He stroked a 2-run single in the top of the first. For the game, Medina went 1 for 4, while adding 2 RBI.
"We had a nice day," said Marysville skipper Jorge Magana.
The second-place Monarchs improved to 36-31.
