Cornhuskers Fall to .500 After Loss to Spartans
In a low-scoring tilt between the Sandy Springs Spartans and the DeKalb Cornhuskers, Ramón Gómez was the difference-maker. The Sandy Springs right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 3-1 win. Gómez got the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed 5 hits and walked 1 over 6.1 innings. Gómez allowed 1 earned run. Tied up with the Cornhuskers in the top of the fifth inning, the Spartans got a boost from right fielder Misao Fujii. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Fujii saw a full count fastball from Matt Howard and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Sandy Springs on top, 2-1.

"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Sandy Springs manager António Chávez said.

The Spartans move to 25-32 with the win, while the Cornhuskers drop to 29-29.
