McFarland Excels, Rock River Blows Out DeKalb
|
The Rock River Rats blasted the DeKalb Cornhuskers, 17-0, at The Rat Hole. Rock River first baseman Scott McFarland was named player of the game for his productive day. He was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 5. Rock River has an impressive 37-19 record.
Though there was little doubt about Rock River's eventual triumph, third baseman Nobuatsu Nakashima made a particularly significant contribution in the bottom of the eighth inning when he hit a 3-run home run off David Gilmour. Nakashima was 1 for 5 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3.
"They thumped us around," said losing manager Eduardo Varerla.
