Big Day for Osburn as Hawks Down Tune-Ups, 12-5
|
The Boise Hawks defeated the Youngstown Tune-Ups, 12-5, in Cory Lidle League action at Joey Naples Memorial Colloseum, with Boise catcher Steve Osburn named player of the game. Bill Myers picked up the win with 5 innings of work. He allowed no earned runs on 6 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. On the season, he is now 1-0. Juan Pérez earned the save for Boise, his 3rd of the year.
Despite the loss, the Hawks got an encouraging performance from 19-year-old Mario Cruz. In the bottom of the eighth, he hit a 2-run double to make the score 12-5, Youngstown.
"It's not easy for a young guy to go out there and perform," Hawks manager Arinori Nakamura said. "But he did it like one of the vets."
With the win over Youngstown, the Hawks improved to 21-19.
