Jail Birds Pick Up 6-3 Win
|
Getting a good performance from third baseman Sofronio Oxinos, the Newark Jail Birds defeated the Buzzard's Bay Beetlecats, 6-3. Oxinos went 2 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Jail Birds. Andy Schuman earned the win to go to 3-0. He allowed 3 earned runs on 8 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Newark now sits at 15-21, while Buzzard's Bay falls to 20-15.
Newark catcher Francisco Sánchez helped the Jail Birds go up, 2-1, in the top of the fourth inning. With the game tied, Sánchez hit a run-scoring single off Buzzard's Bay pitcher Harrison Keightley.
Oxinos said afterward that he was glad to contribute to the win.
