Wichita got an elite performance from starting pitcher Carlos Mendoza in taking a 5-1 decision over the Madison Beehive. Mendoza, now 1-4, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 4, walking 4, and allowing 1 earned run. Wichita is now 14-20.

Both teams had trouble scoring runs. So, Bob Wright's at-bat in the top of the eighth was crucial. With two out, the Wichita designated hitter hit a grand slam, to give his team a 5-1 lead.

"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Wright told the Wichita Times. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."
