The Silicon Valley Hackers pounded the Newark Jail Birds, 15-2, at San Jose Municipal Stadium. Silicon Valley second baseman Edgardo Rodríguez had a solid game. He was 2-4 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while scoring 5 times for the Hackers. Steve Rosenberger, the winner, improved to 1-3. He held the Jail Birds to 2 earned runs on 3 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 8 and walking 3. The save went to Guo-xiu Du, his 1st this season.
Silicon Valley took the lead with two out in the bottom of the first when Greg Coker stroked a 2-run double. That made the score 2-0 in favor of Silicon Valley. For the day, Coker was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"They thumped us around," said losing manager Johan Gillberry.
The Jail Birds, at 7-15, have stumbled out of the gate.
