Hawks Top Tune-Ups to Even Record
|
In a tight game between the Youngstown Tune-Ups and the Boise Hawks, nobody was more important for the winners than Lance Russell. Russell, who received player of the game accolades for the Hawks, was masterful in the 2-1 win. Domingo Trinidad, the winner, improved to 1-2. He held the Tune-Ups to 1 earned run on 6 hits over 6.2 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 0. The Tune-Ups, now 5-9, continue their poor start.
Had Russell not come through in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have changed. Instead, with two down, Russell hit a run-scoring double. The Hawks never looked back after taking the 2-1 lead.
"We were in it," said Youngstown manager Jacob Gaines. "We just didn't score enough runs."
