|
Rock River right-hander Jerry English pitched his team to victory over the Long Island Ducks at Long Island Stadium. The final score was 4-3. English, now 2-0, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 2 earned runs. The win brings the Rats to 8-5, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
The Rock River win was a team effort. It included major contributions from, among others, Josh Kelly. In the top of the sixth, the Rock River shortstop came to bat and hit a run-scoring double. It staked his team to a 3-2 lead.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Long Island manager Roger Fievet.
