Red Bulls Take Down Hackers, 4-2
|
The Riverside Red Bulls picked up a win at San Jose Municipal Stadium, knocking off the Silicon Valley Hackers, 4-2. Starting pitcher Lloyd Huggins was an essential part of his team's success. Huggins, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 2, walking 3, and allowing 2 earned runs. The save went to Kevin Spurr, his 4th this season.
Jim Kempenaars's at-bat in the top of the sixth inning was a big one for Riverside. Coming to bat with two out, a runner on 2nd and Riverside leading 3-2, the catcher hit a run-scoring double.
Huggins attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
The Red Bulls, now 8-4, have played some good baseball in the early going.
