Lights Fall Short, 3-2, at Newark
|
Cobras Ballpark was the site of a tense game between the Phoenix Lights and Newark Jail Birds.
Newark Jail Birds starter Manabu Yamauchi turned in a sterling performance against the Phoenix Lights, leading his team to a slim 3-2 win. John Freemann closed it out for his 4th save.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Chris Sterling was at the plate when Newark scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Jail Birds to go in front, 3-2.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Sterling.
The win takes Newark to 5-6.
