The Buzzard's Bay Beetlecats put one in the win column on Opening Day at Bloomfield Road. The Beetlecats defeated the Phoenix Lights, 7-2. Buzzard's Bay first baseman Juan Sánchez was instrumental in his team's success. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Buzzard's Bay starter Qing-lai Juan was credited with the win after throwing 85 pitches over 5.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Daizo Hirai closed it out for his 1st save.
With Buzzard's Bay trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the third, Sánchez hit a cutter from Deug-yeom Park for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Beetlecats ahead, 3-2.
"We've got a great group of guys," Sánchez said, "and we're having fun right now."
