Storm Troopers Score Late to Upend Mustang, 3-2
|
Fans of the San Antonio Storm Troopers who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a San Antonio win over the visiting Carson City Mustang, 3-2. Dennis Hale started for the home team against Bill Piner. Bill Piner earned the coveted player of the game honors. Reliever John Welch picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Mal Goff took the loss.
The Storm Troopers were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when first baseman Ricardo Morales turned a 2-1 changeup from Mal Goff into a 2-run double. The walk-off double sent a roar through the crowd and gave San Antonio a thrilling 3-2 win.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Morales told the San Antonio Daily. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
