Raiders Fall Short, 6-5, at Minneapolis
|
The Minneapolis Freeze had to overcome a big game from Reno designated hitter Ennio Duccio to leave The Ice Box with a 6-5 victory. Duccio went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. Reliever Larry Greer picked up the win. His record improves to 6-3. Daladhisvara Harishandra took the loss. Esteban Sánchez nailed down his 5th save.
The Freeze got a big at-bat from left fielder Gerardo Avilés. For the game, Avilés was 1 for 2 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the seventh, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 20th double of the season gave Minneapolis a 6-4 lead.
"The clubhouse can get insufferable after we lose, so I'm glad we pulled this one out today," Avilés told the Minneapolis News.
The first-place Freeze have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
