Titans Edge Past Phantoms, 3-2
|
Chicago Titans starter Nicolas Dupuis was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Coronado Phantoms, 3-2. The winner was Chicago reliever Sherwin Aberin, now 1-0. The loser was Yo Watanabe. Coronado, at 66-71, has lost 5 straight.
Chicago shortstop Luis Chávez said he was just trying to make contact when he came to bat with the bases empty in the bottom of the ninth. He did more than that -- Chávez hit a solo home run to stake Chicago to a 3-2 lead. His 8th home run of the season came off Coronado pitcher Yo Watanabe.
"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Chávez said in his postgame press conference.
