Freeze Subdue Indian Wells, 3-1
|
Minneapolis and Indian Wells played a hard-fought contest at Stars Field.
The Indian Wells Aeropostales got a sterling performance from pitcher Ron Robinson, but the Freeze still prevailed, 3-1. Robinson was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. Picking up the save was Mitsuharu Nakashima, his 10th.
A defensive miscue in the top of the eighth cost the Aeropostales. With Minneapolis leading 2-1, Jim Bungay reached on an error by the left fielder, driving in 1 run. Minneapolis ended up winning the ballgame.
Afterward, Freeze manager John Justin was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
The first-place Freeze improved to 72-57.
