Fireballs Drop Another One
|
Omaha beat Joplin at Anchorage Municipal Stadium, eking out a 5-4 win. The win was due in large part to shortstop Wilfred Bray, who earned player of the game honors. Jesús Castillo earned the win for Omaha. He lasted 6.1 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 6-13. Jason Engel got credit for the save for Omaha. It was his 24th of the year.
There were several reasons the Raptors beat the Fireballs, but one factor was Tom Bailey. In the bottom of the sixth, the Omaha designated hitter came to bat and hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 5-4 lead.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Omaha manager Manuel Ruíz.
The last-place Fireballs have lost 5 consecutive games.
