Canadians Edge Albuquerque in Pitching Duel
|
Vancouver right-hander Peter McColgan pitched his team to a shutout win, 1-0, over the Albuquerque Cacti. McColgan, now 8-8, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing no earned runs. Alexis Coates was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 12 of 14 save opportunities.
The Canadians got a big boost from shortstop Cesar Sandino who had a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the third inning off Cacti hurler Dan Thompson. It was his 67th RBI of the season and put Vancouver on top, 1-0.
"We didn't score," said losing manager Lou Hampton. "That was the problem."
Vancouver is now 61-65.
