Raptors Roll to 9-1 Win Over Fireballs
|
The Omaha Raptors downed the Joplin Fireballs, 9-1, at Anchorage Municipal Stadium. The Raptors were led by Fulton Swatt, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Harold Hayne, the winner, improved to 9-2. He held Joplin to 1 earned run on 5 hits over 5 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. Joplin has now lost 4 in a row.
Mario Encarnación came through for Omaha in the bottom of the third. With two out, Encarnación victimized Dennis Gates with a 2-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and put Omaha on top, 3-1.
Raptors manager Manuel Ruíz had nothing but praise for his players after an impressive win, calling the result one of the team's best performances of the season. "Everything just came together on our end," he said. "I didn't need to do too much."
