Coal Miners Fall Short, 4-3, at Bronx
|
The Bronx Bombers beat the Antioch Coal Miners, 4-3 at Bronx Ballpark, in part due to shortstop Miguel Luna, who nabbed player of the game honors. He was 1 for 2 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Wilber Matthews picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Lloyd Huggins was tagged with the loss. Bronx, at 43-69, occupies last place in the Darryl Kile League Cito Gaston League.
Bronx took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, right fielder Octávio García hit a 2-run home run that amped up the crowd.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Antioch skipper John Smiley, "and it cost us."
