Death Stars Fall to Coal Miners, 3-1
|
Felipe Marés could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Detroit Death Stars lost, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Antioch Coal Miners at The Death Star. Antioch starter Matsuyo Koda was credited with the win after throwing 106 pitches over 6.2 innings. His record now stands at 13-4. The Coal Miners, at 71-32, sit in first place in the Darryl Kile League Cito Gaston League.
Jorge Sandoval, the Antioch left fielder, contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to make the score 2-0, Coal Miners. For the game, Sandoval went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Antioch skipper John Smiley.
