The Vancouver Pioneers got a magnificent performance from pitcher Qi-chang Ec, who muffled the Rubber City offense en route to a tight 3-0 Pioneers win at The Rubber Grounds. Ec, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 5.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 6 walks. Garry Strode recorded his 8th save for Vancouver.

In the top of the fifth, Wen Chien had a big run-scoring double off Bob Ruíz. With the double, the Vancouver second baseman put his team in front, 1-0. He went 1-3 with a double in the contest.

"We didn't score," said losing manager Larry Johnson. "That was the problem."

The loss drops Rubber City to 17-10.
