The Peoria Caterpillars had no problem beating the Bronx Bombers, 11-3, at Bronx Ballpark. Steve Bailey led the way. He went 4 for 6 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for Peoria. The winner was Mitsuzuka Koyama, who threw 100 pitches over 5.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 10 hits. Rainer Waldheim got credit for the save for Peoria. It was his 2nd of the year.

The game hit a turning point in the top of the third inning, when the Caterpillars were trailing 2-1. Motoyuki Taniguchi delivered a two-out 3-run home run for Peoria, catapulting his team into the lead.

"We did a lot of things right," said Bailey.
