Raptors Sink Raiders, 8-6
|
The Reno Raiders got a sterling performance from catcher Gary Carter, but the Raptors still prevailed, 8-6. Carter was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 4 runs. Jason Engel earned the save for Omaha, his 12th of the year. Omaha is in third place in the Darryl Kile League Joe Torre Division with a record of 40-45.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Fulton Swatt came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Reno pitcher Li-zhu Kuang, he hit a full count cutter for a bases-clearing double. It was a game-changer, putting Omaha on top, 8-5.
"We'll take this win and move on," said Swatt.
