Escape Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Fireballs
|
Joplin catcher Abraha Rafiq had a good game, even if his team did not. The Fireballs dropped a 5-4 decision to Scranton at Hell Stadium. Rafiq went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Scranton reliever Shane Westmacott picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. José Santos was saddled with the loss. Javier Colón closed it out for his 5th save.
Scranton took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With one out, left fielder David Jacobson hit a solo home run that set the crowd abuzz.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Joplin manager Jeremy Lake said following the tough loss.
The win puts the Escape at 37-38, while the Fireballs drop to 32-46.
