The Joplin Fireballs defeated the Peoria Caterpillars, 6-3, in Darryl Kile League action at Excavatar Park, with Joplin pitcher Gerard Kotas named player of the game. Getting the save was Tomoyuki Kiyomizu, his 13th. The last-place Fireballs are now 29-45, the Caterpillars 38-37.

Had Hiroya Kuroki not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Kuroki hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-2, in favor of the Fireballs.

"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Joplin manager Jeremy Lake.
