Freedom Prevail, 7-6, Over Minneapolis
|
The Philadelphia Freedom and Minneapolis Freeze obliged those fans who came to The Bell looking for a good time.
Despite a fine performance by catcher Harley Ware, the Minneapolis Freeze suffered a 7-6 loss to the Philadelphia Freedom. Ware hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Manuel Cortéz, the winner, improved to 4-3. He held the Freeze to 5 earned runs on 6 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Nobuatsu Fukumoto finished to wrap up his 19th save.
Shunsho Meshizuka played a key role in the win. The Philadelphia first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the bottom of the third. For the game, Meshizuka went 1 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Meshizuka, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
Philadelphia now sits in second place in the Darryl Kile League Cito Gaston League at 42-30.
