Grays Lose to Earthquakes, 5-3
|
The San Francisco Earthquakes trumped the Georgia Grays, 5-3, at Golden Gate Park. San Francisco catcher Luis Álvarez was named player of the game for his performance. He went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Jin-woo Pi was the winner. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Kunihiko Mizuno picked up the save for San Francisco, his 1st of the year.
Álvarez contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the first. With a runner on 2nd, he hit a 2-run home run. It was one at-bat among others that helped San Francisco get the win.
"You can't take yourself too seriously," Álvarez told the San Francisco Observer. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
The Grays fall to 9-14 and continue to sputter in the early going.
