Cats Edge Astoria in Pitching Duel
|
The Fort Worth Cats and Astoria Argonauts put on a pitchers' duel at Golden Fleece Park.
In a tight game between the Fort Worth Cats and the Astoria Argonauts, pitcher James Akehurst was terrific on the mound. The Fort Worth right-hander was named the player of the game in Fort Worth's 1-0 win. Akehurst, the winner, moves to 2-2. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 2 walks.
The Fort Worth triumph was a team effort. Not least among the contributors was José Rodríguez. In the top of the first, the Fort Worth left fielder hit a run-scoring single. It staked his team to a 1-0 lead.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Rodríguez.
Fort Worth is now 19-28.
