Nishiyama Lifts Death Stars to 6-5 Triumph
|
The Detroit Death Stars turned back the Joplin Fireballs, 6-5, at The Firepit. Ryuzaburo Nishiyama was named player of the game for his fine performance. He belted 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Detroit reliever Noritoshi Hayashi was the winner. His record is now 5-1. Evan Charnley took the loss. Detroit occupies second place in the Darryl Kile League Joe Torre Division at 20-23.
Detroit first baseman Shinji Kakuta said he wanted to hit the ball hard when he batted in the top of the eighth. He not only hit it hard, he hit a sinker from Evan Charnley deep for a 2-run home run. It resulted in a 6-5 lead for Detroit.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Joplin manager Jeremy Lake. "The effort was great."
